The South Has Strange Spiders

Well folks, I've found another one. You may remember this post on spiders I typically find around my house (outside, of course). Today, I put up some Halloween decorations on the front porch. Ironically, as I was putting up spooky fake spiderwebs on our windows, I was a little spooked by a real spider I found lurking over my head. I didn't want to knock it down because I didn't know what it was. If it landed on me and happened to be deadly (like it looked), then that would have been pretty silly of me. At first I thought the spider was eating some sort of beetle that it had caught in its web, but then I realized that the part I thought it was eating was actually a part of the spider!

I won't keep you in suspense anymore. I present to you....

The Spiny Orb-Weaver Spider!
Creepy, right?? That crab-looking thing is part of the spider! Read about it on Wikipedia using this link. Check out this wiki-link, too, it's more specific to the species I found.

This spider will not die tomorrow but it will have to find a new home. I only want the little kiddos to find plastic spiders when they come for candy next week!

(AmyB, I know this creeps you out, but I had to make you a little freaked out at least one more time before you leave!)

I HATE how big the picture was on my screen.

I also HATE how I feel all itchy itchy itchy after seeing that picture!!!

Believe it or not, I actually uploaded it as large at first, thought it was a little too big, and then I re-uploaded it smaller.

Maybe it would help to know that they're pretty harmless? Well, no, I guess it wouldn't.
