The Tale of the Beeper

Once upon a time, a large group of my friends and I were up in the children's room at church. We were having our last team meeting before leaving for Honduras. As we were sitting there, I began to grow aware of a repetitive, rather obnoxious sound.

I began to get more restless with irritation at every chirp. The irritation began to change to anger. Why won't it stop?!?! I thought that it was a dying battery in the smoke detector. I mean, the sound was coming from the smoke detector, and it was flashing a little red light. Why won't someone just replace the dang battery?!?!

But then my genius husband - who knows all things - enlightened me to the true source of the noise. "It's a beeper," he explained, "and it lives right above the smoke detector."

"Yeah right, Clark."

"No, I'm serious. Do you want to know what it looks like?" I asked him to go on. "Beepers are really tiny, and they're covered in fur. They're round, and they have little feet and cute little eyes. They have antennas, and they make little chirping sounds when they want to come out and play with you."

And all of a sudden, my heart filled with warm fuzzies and my annoyance melted away. :)
